Synopsis
A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a popular cosmetic procedure that enhances the size and shape of the buttocks without implants. During this procedure, fat is harvested from areas such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, or back through liposuction, then carefully purified and strategically injected into the buttocks to create a fuller, rounder, and more lifted appearance. This dual benefit of body contouring and buttock enhancement makes BBL one of the most sought-after procedures for achieving a more sculpted, hourglass figure. The result is a natural-looking enhancement that improves body proportions and boosts overall confidence.

What is a  Brazilian Butt Lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a body contouring procedure that transfers fat from areas where you have excess (think stomach, hips, back, or thighs) and injects it into your buttocks to add volume, improve shape, and create a more defined hourglass figure.

It is NOT the same as a butt lift (which removes excess skin) and NOT a butt augmentation with implants. The BBL uses your own fat, which means it looks and feels completely natural.

Stage 1:  Liposuction

Fat is liposuctioned from donor areas, typically the abdomen, flanks, hips, back, or thighs. This slims down problem areas and gives us the fat we need for the transfer.

Stage 2: Fat Processing +Injection

Fat is liposuctioned from donor areas, typically the abdomen, flanks, hips, back, or thighs. This slims down problem areas and gives us the fat we need for the transfer.

“A full BBL procedure typically takes 2 to 3 hours under general anesthesia.”

What to Expect from Your Results

Results are visible immediately after surgery, but your butt will be at its largest right after the procedure. Over the next 3 months, fat that did not survive the transfer is gradually absorbed by the body. Most experts agree that approximately 50% of transferred fat survives long-term.

At the 3-month mark, the surviving fat is permanent. Do not judge your final results before this point. Do not be alarmed if your results look smaller as you heal.

One thing to be aware of: some surgeons post before and after photos taken immediately post-op. That swollen, maximum-size result is not the final outcome. At SixSurgery, we are upfront about this and will set realistic expectations during your consultation.

BBL vs. Traditional Butt Lift

A traditional butt lift removes excess sagging skin from the buttocks, typically after significant weight loss or with age. The skin is lifted and tightened, making the buttocks look less saggy.

A BBL adds volume using fat transfer. It reshapes the buttocks but does not address loose skin. If you have significant skin laxity, a traditional butt lift may be the better option, and our team will advise you on this during your consultation.

Risks and Complications

As with all surgical procedures, a BBL carries certain risks. Our team takes every precaution to minimize these, and our state-of-the-art surgical suite meets the highest safety standards. Potential risks include:

  • Bleeding or bruising
  • Infection of the injected fat (monitor for fever, chills, redness, and heat post-op)
  • Skin irregularities, lumpiness, or dimpling
  • Asymmetry
  • Fat embolism (a serious risk associated with deep fat injection, which we take specific steps to avoid)
  • Loss of fat survival (approximately 50% of transferred fat is absorbed over 3 months)
  • Deep vein thrombosis (risk increases with higher BMI, which is why we enforce strict BMI requirements)

During your consultation, we will go through all potential risks in detail and outline the steps we take to keep you safe.

Steps to Surgery

1: Consultation
Meet with the SixSurgery team to discuss your goals and assess whether you are a good candidate. We will be honest about what is achievable and what to expect. Review the BBL gallery to see real results from patients with similar body types.
3: Pre-Surgery Preparation
  • Discuss all medications with our team, as some may need to be stopped pre-surgery
  • Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after your procedure
  • Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to surgery
  • Arrange for someone to take you home and stay with you post-op

2: Booking and Pre-Op Prep
Once you decide to proceed, you will be asked to provide recent bloodwork to confirm you are healthy and suitable for surgery. Our nursing team will walk you through all pre-op requirements.

Who is an Ideal Candidate?

The ideal BBL candidate has enough donor fat available for transfer, good skin elasticity, and is in overall good health. Here's who is a good fit and who is not:

You may be a good candidate if:

You have excess fat in at least one area (abdomen, hips, thighs, back)

Your BMI is under 30Are at a stable weight and have maintained it for several months

Are in good overall health and cleared for surgery

You are under 50 years old

You are a non-smoker or willing to stop smoking for 4+ weeks pre/post surgery

You want natural-looking volume without implants

You are not a candidate if:

  • Your BMI is 30 or above
  • You are 50 years old or older
  • You have diabetes (reduces fat survival and increases infection risk)
  • You do not have enough donor fat available

Why Patients Choose Dr. 6ix for Their BBL

Dr. Jugenburg, known as Dr. 6ix, was one of the first surgeons in Canada to perform the Brazilian Butt Lifts. He's performed more BBL procedures than any other clinic in the country, and his results speak for themselves.

Dr. Miami, one of the most recognized BBL surgeons in the world, personally invited Dr. Jugenburg to join his BBL Collective, a group of top surgeons who share techniques to refine and advance the art of the Brazilian Butt Lift. Dr. Jugenburg is also the first surgeon in Canada to use the fat auto-infuser (the Butt-O-Matic 6ix000), a tool that allows for higher volume fat transfers with more precise sculpting.

Why a BBL by Dr. 6ix?

  • First in Canada to use the fat auto-infuser for more precise, higher-volume transfers
  • Natural-looking results using your own fat, no foreign implants
  • Two procedures in one: liposuction removes fat from problem areas while transferring it to the buttocks
  • Minimal scarring, all incisions are just a few millimeters
  • Less recovery time compared to butt implant surgery

IMPORTANT: SixSurgery has a strict BMI requirement of under 30 and patients must be under 50 years of age for BBL consultations. No exceptions. See the candidate section below for details.

Brazilian Butt Lift Recovery

Recovery from a BBL requires some specific care, especially in the first 2 weeks:

  • Do not sit directly on your buttocks for the first 2 to 3 weeks. Use a BBL pillow to place weight on your thighs instead.
  • Sleep on your stomach or your sides
  • You will be walking the day after surgery
  • Wear your compression garment for up to 6 weeks
  • Lipo massage sessions are included in your surgical fee (up to 5 sessions with our on-site RMT) and are important for smooth results
  • Avoid strenuous physical activity for 6 weeks
  • Final results visible at 3 months post-surgery

SixSurgery is located in the Fairmont Royal York Hotel. Your surgical fee includes one overnight stay at the hotel (subject to availability), allowing our nursing team to monitor you closely in the first 24 hours post-surgery.

Watch for signs of infection in the weeks after surgery: night sweats, chills, fever, or any area of the buttocks that feels hotter, redder, or more tender than others. If any of these occur, contact us immediately.

Brazilian Butt Lift FAQs

Who is NOT a candidate for a BBL?

Anyone with a BMI over 30, anyone 50 years of age or older, patients with diabetes, and patients who do not have enough donor fat. These are strict requirements with no exceptions, and they exist to protect your safety and results.

How long do BBL results last?

Fat that survives the transfer is permanent. By the 3-month mark, surviving fat is stable and will stay as long as you maintain a consistent body weight. Significant weight loss after a BBL can reduce the volume in your buttocks.

Will I have scars?

One of the biggest benefits of the BBL is minimal scarring. All incisions are just a few millimeters. Most patients are bikini-ready with no visible evidence of surgery.

Is a BBL the same as butt injections?

Absolutely not. Butt injections involve injecting synthetic substances like silicone or Biogel into the buttocks. A BBL only uses fat that is liposuctioned from your own body. Using anything other than your own fat is dangerous and illegal.

Can I combine a BBL with a tummy tuck?

It is technically possible but not recommended. The recovery positions for each procedure conflict with each other, which can compromise your results and make recovery very uncomfortable.

How much does a BBL cost in Toronto?

At SixSurgery, a BBL starts at $14,500 for one area of liposuction. With Lipo360 (the most popular option), pricing starts at $26,100. A full fee breakdown is available at your consultation.

What is a Skinny BBL?

A Skinny BBL is performed on patients who are lean but still have enough donor fat for transfer for a more natural result (often a BMI under 30). Dr. 6ix has specific techniques for maximizing results for slimmer patients.

How do I prepare for surgery?

Stop smoking at least 2 weeks before your procedure. Discuss all medications with us in advance. Arrange transportation and someone to stay with you post-op. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to surgery. Further instructions will be given by our nursing team.
